Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE)

The Functional Capacity Evaluation is a two-day assessment of a participant’s functional capabilities. The evaluation safely and objectively measures:

• Material Lifting Capacity
• Non-Lifting Activities
• Hand Strength
• Work Tolerance
• Coordination/Balance
• Muscle/Skeletal/Postural/Gait Physical Evaluation
• Past and Current Impairment Analysis
• Case File Review
• Self-Perceived Ability Assessment
• Validity of Performance Assessment

Andersen Physical Therapy uses the kinesiophysical approach to determining the participant’s actual level of function. This method relies on the evaluator’s expertise to determine maximum function by observing the muscles, joint movement, body mechanics, speed, gait, heart rate and other visual cues. The evaluator determines when maximum effort has been reached and stops testing when the activity becomes unsafe and dysfunctional.
